AUSTERE WILDERNESS
“I know of no redeeming qualities in myself but a sincere love for some things,
and when I am reproved I fall back to this ground:
what have I to do with ploughs? I cut another furrow than you see.”
- -himself d. thoreau
let me start by stating a few practical matters that i wish to accomplish in my sequestration in these remote parts:
1) the generation and digital documentation of certain pidgin sign language phrases from my script, OF RIVERS, OF DAYS – an adaptation of Thoreau’s first book, A WEEK ON THE CONCORD AND MERRIMACK RIVERS
2) generation of additional presentation/ packaging materials for the purpose of
distributing the script, in hopes of finding resources that will help me fully produce the project
3) distillation of several false-starts, sketches and wholly formed elements that make up an approach to physical training that is uniquely my own
—so that has meant taking myself on foot-tours of Wabaunsee County, jogging back and forth on roads that pass hwy 195, reputedly the shortest official hwy in all the land.
